BJC
BJC is adding more BIGC stores to reach 781 by the end of 2017 and trying to reduce low profit products on the shelves. It reported that same-store-sales growth turned positive in 3Q17 for the first time in three years and expects SSS growth to continue to rise in 4Q17-1Q18 in tandem with the better economy. It also plans to expand to CLMV markets. (Thun Hoon, 27/12/17)
Comment: The story is simple here, improving performance at the stores is a given due to how weak margins were in 2H16-1H17, so YoY everything will look great up to the end of 1H18. Following on from this there will be probably be some financial engineering i.e. refinancing the debt used to buy BIGC, and potentially acquiring Metro Vietnam.

  1. It boggles the mind that the BMTA would enter into a contract for a billion baht more than what the previous winner bid for the NGV buses. BMTA should just take delivery of the Bestlin buses at a discounted rate on top of the 350 million forfeited deposit.
