  1. The case against Parina’s 1700 rai chicken farm has the potential to distrupt supply. This is a big operation and is a supplier to Betagro – among the top five. I think the disruption in operations can lead to drastic drop in chicken supply. It could also result to potential NPL for a couple of banks.

    • highly doubt it will have a significant impact on the supply side given ample chicken supply has kept prices low for a number of years. This pig flu epidemic might be a silver lining for chicken if it forces people to change their meat consumption habits to bird. Although with all the luck Thailand has avoided swine flu thus far.

      • Swine flu did hit some parts in northern thailand, but this wasn’t well covered by the media here.

Doubt we see big changes in food habits…Vietnamese and Chinese are still enjoying their pork…I don’t see that changing here much either, anytime I see my favourite Moo Ping Sticky Rice place I’m ordering it, diseases be damned! :p

Chicken – Potentially should the government/courts act on it….

    • peter satrapa-binder

      – well, if it’s ruled to be illegal land usage/encroachment, the supply and financial effects shouldn’t be any consideration.
      – in any case only 40 rai out of 690 or so were seized….
