With Xmas and New Years within the next 2 weeks, this will be the last post for the year as its time to unwind, relax and recharge for what will be an exciting and most likely volatile 2015.

2014 was close to a normal year for Thailand, we faced a military coup with a self installed military government that vows democracy [doesn’t this feel like Groundhog Day?].

The stock market rallied from its lows at the beginning of the year to be up +15-20% as of now and we have seen many things happen:

  • The infrastructure spending plans go through
  • Digital TV beginning to have an impact
  • The NBTC/TOT/all telecom agencies hurting the telco companies – except True which has a new shareholder in China Mobile
  • Every small IPO going through the roof on its first day of trading and backdoor listing’s that sated retail investor’s appetites
  • Rumours around the King’s health
  • Rumours about an anti-coup coup
  • The police being cleaned out by the military.
  • A recent collapse in oil prices

Thus a typical year for Thailand, some great wins, some big losses but in the end the country is still doing fine, the economy is still ok, and should the powers that be not mess things up too badly everything will be fine.

My biggest misses for the year, which still constantly annoy me whenever I look at their stock prices, were Union Auction PCL (AUCT) (up 7x) and Energy Absolute PCL (EA) (up 3x), I know why I missed them both despite having seen them both directly/indirectly and I’ll just jot down these misses in my (now massive) notebook of things to remember.

So thank you all for reading, have a great holiday and see you all next year
